Re: my monitor hurts my eyes :(

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think Starfighter is right and this is an eyesight issue, not an electronic issue :o I have also gotten migraines while reading books but I didn’t think much of it. Need to get my eyes checked sometime hehe

my monitor hurts my eyes :(

I’m typing this on my smartphone  I use Windows 10 and an external monitor (a Gigabyte M27Q-P to be specific). I have tried adjusting the brightness, the color temperature, using f.lux, but I can’t stare at it for more than a few minutes without getting a headache. It wasn’t always like this, ...

Re: Let's talk about movies

In the thread about books, Lain mentioned Annihilation the movie vs the original, so I want to talk about it some more here :0 I think the movie is good if you think of it as its own thing. It's very, very far from the source material. I was rather annoyed that they cast white people for the Biologi...

Re: Hyper-specific things you like in music

I was telling someone irl that I actually liked Dwayne Johnson's "talk-singing" in the Moana soundtrack, and they informed me that the proper term for it is "recitative" :P I've mentioned this in the server before, but my favorite example of this is Indiscipline by King Crimson. ...

Re: Books, libraries, reading!

The very first one I joined is still around actually :S Not gonna say the name, because young me posted a lot of stupid things there (under the username Yukari as well lol). Re: Quick questions that don't need a dedicated thread

I’m biased (I use a splashpage for my own site hehe) but I also like when other people do it because - It usually loads faster than the ‘proper’ homepage, and if I don’t seem interested, I can just click away - (building off prev) when I click through webrings, these splashpages load quickly, and I ...

Re: thoughts on video game piracy?

This right here is the second main reason I pirate all of my media. It's getting too expensive to buy physical and digital often has privacy issues as well as media being taken down at any time. Though the main reason I pirate media is to not give corpos my money. An indie dev I'll send a donation ...

Re: thoughts on video game piracy?

My siblings went to a retro game store recently and the shop was trying to sell DS-era pokemon games for TRIPLE DIGITS. It single-handedly convinced us to start homebrewing our 3DSes. I also have a homebrewed Switch and it's very lovely, being able to play the new pokemon games without spending $60 ...

Months ago I got really bored and bought a japanese boxset of both Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. I don't understand JPN at all, but I know the games like the back of my hand, so I'm managing :p They also came with Pokewalkers, and I linked them to my ENG copy so they'd be in ENG. Yes, because I am NOTHING without the inspect element tool xD It's how I get inspiration and learn.
I love when there's comments left by the author. My favorite one said something along the lines of, "If you're looking at the source, I'm so sorry, I don't know what I was doing here."

I have one of those cheapo used kindles. It was only $50, but every time I turn it off, the screen displays a book advert. I got so annoyed, I keep it facedown when I’m not using it, ANYWAY: I have been trying and failing to finish the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer. Loved the first book,...

Baking from scratch is one of my favorite ways to kill time, but I do rely on the internet to find recipes... sometimes, if I buy the box mixes, I try the recipes listed on the back, but a lot of them are way too sugary, even for my sweet tooth. I also love building LEGO sets but it's a very, verrrr...

I’m probably thinking of something too recent (mid 2000’s) but I was in a forum where avatars needed to be 65x65 and only 15kb. I had to go into GIMP and lower the amount of colors and quality and slowly shave away bytes until it was small enough. Same forum, people got really into formatting their ...

omg middlepot I never thought about doing that! Here’s a fun one: If you have trouble drawing a room you can take a picture of the inside of a cardboard box and draw over it. Could even draw a “floor plan” on the box to make visualizing everything easier
