Re: Privacy Boost thread

We use Librewolf and Ungoogled Chromium as well. For seach we use a self-hosted SearXNG which runs on our server protected by EU privacy laws. We should use a VPN too but have been lazy about it. Social media we stopped using entirely except discord and twitch. Youtube is used exclusively via invidi...

Re: What's the latest video game you bought?

Prolly Bonelab. I haven't really been buying games lately cuz I want to work with the library I already got. There are a few I wanna buy but they're either rarely on sale or not out yet. I'm defo enjoying Bonelab so far. Been hyped for it ever since I played Boneworks. I have to play it in small ste...

Re: What email providor do you use?

We're using fastmail. It's pretty cheap at 50 bucks a year for an account where you can have your own domain. Or 30 a year without using a custom domain. If you can set it up I would defo recommend using your own domain, as that gives you the freedom of switching to another provider at any point. If...

Re: Wikipedia UI update

The new one works better with our ultrawide.
Linebreaks help us parse the text better and on a screen that's more than half a meter wide, long lines just got even longer on the old one.

Re: you can make your own server

I'd say: If you're going to do this, get a VPS. The internet is a scary place and I don't really want any old rando having direct access to a system on my network I also have SSH Host Key authentication enabled so it's pretty much impossible to get access to my server, unless you happen to steal on...

Re: Carrds, DNIs, and privacy online

I think a part of the people sharing literally everything about themselves comes from that culture of people always being out for eachother. I've defo seen a few attitudes of "Why don't you tell me about that? Got some bad stuff to hide?" in some people. So they share everything about them...

Re: What's your philosophy behind how you build your site?

I got a few for the technical things and the content side of it. The technical ones: Avoid JS unless it's needed for what I want to do/provide a fallback or message for when it's needed but turned off. Non-interactive pages should be usable on any device, even a text only browser. Keep bandwidth usa...

Re: how many email accounts do you have?

One account but many aliases.
I make a randomized alias for every service we register on. That way we can easily filter them and if one lands on a spam list we can just delete that alias and it'll reject any mail on that one.

As a long time Arch user, I just installed NixOS cuz I like the concept of having all your configs in one place and any updates or changes always making a backup state to return to. Plus it lets me just copy said config to another PC and get the same system I had within minutes! Like, I set up every...

Re: what do we do when social media disappeared?

One question I have is, for those who don't use social media, how does it affect your day-to-day life? Do you mean how not using it affects us? Or how it affects us despite not using it? For the first I'd say I miss a lot of trends, but I never was a fan of those anyway. Not having to see people be...

Re: doing stuff with or without phones

I'm mostly using my phone when in bed or on the commute.
I could play stuff on my computer cuz I can see it from the bed. Tho changing videos is a pain.
Do you have recommendations for stuff to do on the commute? Cuz rn I download videos at home and watch them during it.

My biggest tech loss to current tech: physical keyboards on phones. I'm glad Unihertz makes the Titan, because I much prefer typing on it over a touch screen. I hate touchscreen typing with a passion and wish they'd make slide-out keyboards for cellphones again Same. I don't get how anyone can pref...

I use Arch btw! On desktop at least! My current desktop is a normal arch install and I tried making sure that any nonfree stuff on my pc is running sandboxed. I will breathe a sigh of relief. And be glad I don't have to witness the fallout from it cuz the people upset don't have a place to post about it.

Tho in all seriousness I'd hope it makes all the people who used it re-assess why they used it and what it caused to them.

Re: Weekly Discussion - Why Did You join The Yesterweb?

I first heard of SpaceHey randomly in a video and checked it out. There I found the Yesterweb group.
It looked really cool especially cuz I like the vibe of the old internet a lot.

Joined the server right after that and found the entire place and the vibe/attitude a nice fresh breath of air!
