Re: The forum is shutting down

there's the kind that ends a conversation and the kind that continues the conversation in a non-conflict-centric way. Iv always tried to achieve the latter; it's not always obvious, but it's always there. my man,,,,, you literally delete people's posts, edit their words, and lock or move topics tha...

Re: The forum is shutting down

I'm not sure why it's assumed that it's the mods' responsibility to archive it. perhaps someone wouldn't mind preserving the posts with a database dump, which i'm guessing only the webmaster has access to. i assume all phpBB databases have the same schema, so i wonder how hard it would be to just i...

Re: Nice online spaces for socializing

how do you reconcile the hyper kind vibe of stuff like Melonland with the vibe of chan-esque users? They seem like complete opposites of a spectrum to me, and have a hard time imagining someone genuinely liking both. (but no worries if you think this might get long or way too controversial) i think...

Re: The forum is shutting down

this is a bummer - this site was really cool to be a part of and interact with other people who are interested in early-web channels of communication. And it was fun to help people dabbling in web development, especially as someone who also really enjoys forum environments that are focused on promot...

codeacademy is a really good tool for getting hands-on experience. they'll run you through the basics here:

https://www.codecademy.com/catalog/language/javascript

and then you can choose to keep going with harder lessons or not

Re: What happened to the webring?

I had no idea it was such a big deal :o I'm using Hosteons as a provider now, and I like them because I have a VPS with 2GB RAM (which seems to be on the higher end) and it only costs me $40 a year to keep up. If anyone knows of anything comparable to that, lemme know! I'd be open to seeing what el...

i would invest some extra time in learning about CSS flexbox. "float" isn't really a good solution in making layouts anymore here's a quick example of what you probably are looking for (you might have a better time looking at this in a full-screen browser to get the idea, rather than the l...

Today I have updated the navigation section of my website, so in the mobile version you can expand and close it to conserve plenty of space. reacting to posts is what is so wrong about modern social media platforms Why do you think that it's inherently bad? i mean the same reason they're ass on social media. it just turns into making posts for the numbers. granted, it's probably only a problem for bigger communities, but i just think th...

i think reactions are bad, and don't think anything is wrong with quoting a user and saying "lol" or something similar. Conversations feel more organic that way, and reacting to posts is what is so wrong about modern social media platforms
