what do y'all do while listening to music?

hi, curious to hear what y'all do while you listen to music (if you listen to music... i assume most people do). i'm trying to break out of the habit of just mindlessly scrolling online while i listen to music
"nothing" is a totally valid answer- personally, i do that sometimes, but i don't always have the focus to just sit there and do nothing every time

usually i'm walking! sometimes i just go for a walk and listen to music but sometimes it's on my way to the bus stop for work etc etc. i rarely listen to music while doing nothing, i also find it hard to just sit there and listen lol. i used to listen to music a lot while i was cleaning my house as well.

My most favorite pastime though is listening to music and drawing. It always fuels my inspiration and thoughts in such crazy ways, especially when I've gotten an idea from one song that ends up getting shaped by the next one in the queue.

I also don't do this much anymore but sometimes I used to write poetry set to the tune of a song's melody. I got a lot of great work out of that practice.

ooh i love this- i actually used to write to music, but it's been ages! really, great idea. it's like divine inspiration except instead of god it's weezer or something. not that i listen to weezer, i got myself out of that mess a long time ago- had to go to "weezer rehab". anyways yea that's an excellent thing to do to music, one of the best imo

Most things I do, I may have music going. Though this depends on the time of day and my mood. One thing I don't do anymore is listen to music just to listen to music. I honestly think I want to transition to just listening to music (intentionally) for the sake of music.

The last time I just put a new album in and vibed was probably high school (over 15 years ago).

when i listen to music, i'm mostly drawing. though sometimes i do just sit around and vibe. i guess that's not everyone's thing.

Everything! Cleaning, doing dishes, walking, browsing the web, fixing stuff, organizing, cooking, reading, solving puzzles and so on. If the thing I'm doing demands my full attention I go with music without lyrics (this is how I got into synthwave).

Depends, sometimes i'm playing a game like minecraft while listening to more chill music, othertimes i'm working on a project or writing-- depends on what exactly the tone i need for the project is. Once i was listening to Silver Mt Zion while working on some somberish worldbuilding, worked rather well!

Usually walking around my house but when listening to an album i never heard of i put it on when focusing on things like drawing or filling in job applications, makes the setting for me have more a punch to it than listening to an album i already know how its gonna go.

I´m kinda of the oposite, music helps me focus when I´m working on the project. But also that depends. If Im reading something its gotta be instrumental.

Also when Im playing online games, sometimes I would curate playlists design to fit the game Im playing. Breaks the tedium a bit when Im questing or looking for crafting materials.

Skateboarding. I like to put cool music on while I skate, simple as.

I love listening to music while skateboarding!

It’s not often that I’m not listening to music. I’ll be listening to music when I am:

• Walking the dogs

• Making breakfast or cooking dinner

• Doing chores

• Running errands

• Sitting on the deck drinking beer

• Working out

• Driving in the card

For a lot of the activities above, I am passively listening to music. I have a vinyl collection and my intention with that is to actively listen to each record. I will intentionally sit down and listen to the music, often while enjoying a beer. During this listening session I will not be doing anything else, scrolling the phone etc.

Depending on the activity I will be listening to music on my AirPods, the Sonos speakers throughout the house or the car stereo.

I can’t listen to music while I’m trying to concentrate or work.

Are there any situations where you can’t listen to music either?

i mostly listen to music while im outside, so like. taking public transports, buying groceries, etc.

when im home its mostly when i want some background noise to draw or play a game

I do all manner of things while listening to music because I listen to music all the time xP but my favorite thing to do is walk around campus and listen i haven't done it much because of the cold, but satisifies both the need to be constantly moving (i used to pace the floors of my house, and will still do it in my bedroom lol) and being able to listen to music :3 that or as background noise when playing games or reading is nice
