Layoffs at Meta Inc

Post by Blog47177 »

In this report Meta will cut 10000 jobs from their operations. On One hand for us here its a happy day to see Meta Inc go down but for the staff at Meta not so much.

This is more related to the Silicon Valley Bank fallout.

While I'd love to see Meta broken up and Zuck go down in flames, shedding ~26k jobs in the last 6 months doesn't hurt the people doing & perpetuating real harm... in fact, from rumors/reports it seems like most of these people were fairly recent hires (2020-Present), done to keep top talent away from competitors.

So not only did Meta make their competitors suffer an artificial talent drought, but those people are now more jaded and burned-out than before; which again just hurts us as the users (or those impacted by their users). And by screwing over workers, the execs ensured their bonuses are safe and stockholders get a payout.

Thus ends my anti-capitalist rant for the day.

if a business goes down another business will come and take its place
if a bank goes down another bank will come and take its place
if a CEO goes down another CEO will come and take its place
if a social media website goes down another social media website will come and take its place
.
.
.
if a neuron goes down another neuron will come and take its place
if a blood cell goes down . . .

whether it's Elon or Zuck or Twitter or Meta (or NFTs or web3 etc.) this particular situation always shows up: that we miss the forest for the trees, and we give excessive time and effort and focus to the trees. even when some of us know better, we still do it because we find it entertaining, because we are desperate for entertainment, for something to change, because we are seriously deprived of satisfying stimulation or a dignified life or confidence in our personal power to transform reality or whatever else it may be

no I cannot be happy if the monster only bleeds because the wound will heal and it may become more monstrous in the process
we seek greater knowledge to make greater decisions when the time for making decisions appears - to be the most capable versions of ourselves in any situation that arises - this is why we study - this is why we learn

It's an educated quick analysis even if it turns out not to be accurate, but I wouldn't say it's anti-capitalist so much as anti-nefariousness or anti-shortsightedness.
