Re: what linux distro do you use?

I've been using Arch for ± one year and a half now. It's surprisingly simple to maintain while being extremely customizable, and it works like a charm to me. I've also used antiX and Obarun. I would recommend antiX for someone who has a slow computer. I didn't feel much of a difference between Obaru...

Re: favorite album covers?

The Kortatu's self-titled one has a really cool cover! Here goes some of my favorite album covers: Yagami Junko - Communication: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FQqmepmXMAIhsix?format=jpg&name=medium Siouxsie & the Banshees - Tinderbox: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FQqkO3XXwAE43vD?format=png&...

Re: message reactions

I'd prefer not having it. I think forcing one to have to post to express anything about another post or a thread is healthier than bringing the like economy here.

Re: What's your favorite old+out of use website?

I was really into Sonic when I started using the internet around 2009/2010. The main Brazilian fansite was (and still is) Power Sonic. It's pretty much alive, but they've done a very interesting thing; many portions of the site have been left untouched for years. The site was created in 2001, so the...

Re: What can we learn from the Old web?

Can't we just build our own algorithms, though? I think the big problem with social media and so on is that they are so driven by maximizing engagement. Makes sense if you're selling ads or making money off people using the platform, but you could optimize for something else. Algorithms are ultimat...

I've lost count of how many times I repeated this album lately.

Re: Artists, how do you feel about being open about your inspirations?

I guess this is the first time I heard about such taboo. I can't even fathom not being open about one's own inspirations. Art is inherently and inescapably social.

Re: Obligatory Desktop thread!

oh my god this wm looks so cool, even if i don't end up using it i'll probably rip the gtk theme and modify it for my tiling wm. reminds me of old-school UNIX! thanks for putting it on my radar :> It is a modern remake of CDE , so the remembrance isn't unwarranted. I may end up riping the themes an...

Can't go wrong with the Earthsea saga. The first book, A Wizard of Earthsea, is really good and relatively short for a fantasy work.

Re: Obligatory Desktop thread!

https://i.imgur.com/MKKDH2f.png I've decided to change things up after one year and a half of being DE-less and using tiling WMs. NsCDE caught my attention some time ago, and now that I've finally installed it, I'm really impressed. I didn't even have to customize it that much to make it look great...

Re: What's your philosophy behind how you build your site?

Text should be big enough to be easily readable. No shadows. No animations. No transitions. No curves. Borders are both pretty and helpful. Other than that, I'm still figuring it out. I have the (purely aesthetic, not moral or anything) feeling that speed and simplicity depict technological power be...
