Re: what linux distro do you use?
I switched to linux (from windows) about 3 years ago, after being unsatisfied with WSL, which I was using Ubuntu on. My first proper distro was Debian. When i got a new laptop (well... new to me) last year I put Fedora on it, which I prefer over Debian for daily use due to the more updated repos... ...

Re: The forum is shutting down
By the time I got into the yesterweb community, it was already on the decline. I don't have friends here. I'm not really active. I tried to engage a few times, but I think for some things you sort of have to be there very early on to really be sad when it ends. So I'm not sad. A little disappointed ...

Information about the Yesterweb Minecraft server?
I'm having issues with connecting to the server. Yesterweb site says it's vanilla 1.17.1, but when I open 1.17.1 and attempt to connect it says it is 1.16.5 and modded with forge. What's going on? Am I missing something? Apologies if this is the wrong subforum for this topic.

Re: First game you remember playing
I honestly don't know if it even qualifies as a game but I had one of those little plug-and-play consoles from a mcdonalds happy meal, it was a digital coloring book. Failing that, probably Anbot or Abuba the Alien, point and click flashgames.

It might be a 'product of the era' thing but the sheer popularity of unfunny edgy 'humor' which mostly consisted of racial slurs and aggressive overuse of the word 'rape'. i definitely don't miss that.

Beading, Traditional Drawing/Painting, Flea markets/Thrift shopping (but only if you stay out of the electronics sections, that makes it digital again!)

Re: The Best Alternative Search Engines
I went from duckduckgo to gigablast, back to duckduckgo, then to searx and then mojeek. I would not recommend ddg to anyone because it still harvests user data. Gigablast and searx just kinda suck for finding what you want in my experience. I'll have to try some of these other ones though...

i quite like the cover of no balance palace by kashmir (indie rock). the composition, the concept, the contrasting colors. it's just right. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1f/Kashmir-No_balance_palace_front.jpg meat puppets ii (psychedelic/cowpunk) also has a really pretty album cover, p...

Re: I wish more people would make personal websites.
I hate the common notion nowadays that anything colorful and/or personalized is considered "too tacky" or "outdated" or whatever. This even extends beyond web design; Like in this story I remember where this mall that had fun decor all over the walls from the 80's was all gettin...
