Re: Nice online spaces for socializing

OH I should also add that the US media has a brilliant way of vilifying counterculture and simplifying them to stereotypes to belittle their actual intentions. It happened with the Beats so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened with the Hippies. It seems that capitalism absorbs these movements into...

Re: Nice online spaces for socializing

I think it's worth noting now that, in retrospect, the Hippies ended up being a subculture. Nothing fundamentally changed. I took a deep dive into the Beatniks last year for some reason, I think I was attracted to it due to my poetry teacher bringing up a poet they look up to named Robinson Jeffers...

Re: Nice online spaces for socializing

we wouldn't have had to split if we didn't have irreconcileable differences. if they were reconcileable, why would yesterweb and agora road be separate? why would yesterweb and melonland be separate? what about all the various offshoot chatrooms that were created as a result of our decisions over t...

Re: Nice online spaces for socializing

t's interesting that a lot of people misunderstood my example as being about being threatened for my gender. It was actually for my political views and personal beliefs. sorry I assumed, in your post my brain saw "my people deserve to be shot" and then right after it went to talking about...

Re: Neocities Website Sandbox Collaboration

Thanks for taking the time to post these helpful links! I joined Ray's forum too so I may see you there. I'd love to try and figure out how to do it. I'm gonna have to figure out how to explain to my friends how to do it though which will be interesting lol.

Re: Nice online spaces for socializing

Fair amount of chatter about Agora in your thread, but have you considered their perspective? Most of Agora's users wanted a 'self proclaimed' alternative web community like YW to succeed on principle alone. Of course there's the shared interest of "the old internet" and vaporwave adjacen...

Re: Neocities Website Sandbox Collaboration

Thanks! Yeah I saw the word "Git" being thrown around with the searches I made, and I was like "hmm that reminds me of GitHub". Then I realized that it may be what I am looking for. I've used it before for uploading stuff to professors for class projects but never used it for mys...

Neocities Website Sandbox Collaboration

On the "The Forum is Shutting Down" forum post, madness brought up creating a collective website for a group of people to work on. I actually wanted to try this out and do it with some friends as a way to have fun and learn HTML and CSS together. They brought up: Another thing I think woul...

Re: The forum is shutting down

This may be a long one, I apologize, but I have been thoroughly reading and taking note of this whole thread. I can't specifically recall when I found myself at the pearly gates of the yesterweb. I would guess I stumbled upon it in 2021...But I definitely saw Sadness's website first on Neocities. Mo...

SHIT! AHaha this is going to the void, but I don't mind! Memento mori! Mono no aware! Wabi-Sabi! I meant to do this sooner, but irl stuff got in the way. I worked really hard on my "Strands" piece and thought to myself after the zine was posted up, alright lets actually participate and sta...

Re: thoughts on drama commentary channels?

They all beat a dead horse and try resurrecting stuff to reignite drama that would be better off forgotten. It's like fast food, I shouldn't eat it but damn those artificial flavors make my brain create some addicting chemical reactions. The resulting fatigue from those videos parallels what del tac...

Re: Past friends of the internet

Man, it was Roblox for me too. I was in a smallish war clan group when war clans were the big thing back in 2008-2012. The main crew was probably around 20-30 active members. I can think of probably around 15 off the top of my head that I would actively talk to and hang out with at our headquarters....
