Re: Icon url invalid
Hey there,
Are you keeping it in a .webp extension? Try saving it as a .png or a .jpeg if you haven't and see if that works.

Similar situation: since the forum supports adding an avatar using an external URL, I thought I'd use my avatar from Gravatar, where direct-linking URLs are similarly formatted as a domain followed by a hash rather than an image filename. I got a similar error about an invalid URL.
Here's their example URL: https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/205e460 ... 7710c08d50
To clarify: are all avatar URLs without a file extension (".jpg", ".png", et cetera) considered invalid?

Re:
I looked through the administrative settings, and I couldn't find a concrete answer to your question, but I suspect you are right. I think this might be a security precaution on PHPBB's end.Starfia wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 5:05 pm Vincent (or other admins) –

But! Good news is that I noticed there was an option for "Allow Gravatar avatars". I'm not entirely familiar with this option but I enabled it to check it out. So in this case you should be able to use that link you shared, but you need to select "Gravatar" in the "Avatar Type" dropdown in your profile for it to work.

Re: Gravatar
Hey, we have a profile image. (And the phpBB feature knew how to generate the hash to retrieve it and everything.) Merci beaucoup for trying that.
That solves for the one case of Gravatar's API, but I'll remain curious about the more general question of the conditions for "validity" of an external image generally.
