I really want those old web Y2K signature gifs, where do you all find/make them?

There's many ways to do it. Two of the most common applications to make them are Adobe Photoshop or GIMP.

There are a ton of really great tutorials from back when they were more popular.

Some things to search for:
gimp forum signature tutorial
photoshop signature tutorial

Here's two examples:
This one in particular has always stood out to me as being very good, but specific to Photoshop.

This one being still good but not quite the same level and uses GIMP.

I sometimes forget not all of us can do stuff like this without really thinking about it. A lot of things I personally know how to do feels like something everyone probably know - like it's self-explanatory. I'm not an expert but I have been playing with raster graphics editors since the mid 90's (not to mention my three different graphical design educations lol) so if we were to create a how to-section in the future I'd be willing to contribute. <3

A lot of making signatures is just playing around with a bunch of filters and blending layers and custom brushes and custom fonts having fun with it. I'd recommend being curious and playing with it.

Tumblr web graphics have a lot of aesthetic overlap. There's a lot of resources related to Tumblr graphics (focus on photoshop) here: https://fyeahtutorial.tumblr.com Don't miss the top bar (only visible on desktop).

I don't think a lot of tutorials are good, as they're mostly just step-by-step recreations of a particular signature and not a guide on making your own. But it could be inspirational.

Just play and have fun :-3. Adjustment layers are you friends. Try using layer masks. A gradient map, but be subtle (or go nuts). Try every layer blending style, although you'll probably end up using Multiply and Overlay the most. A curves adjustment layer is almost always a good final step.
