any selfshippers here?
hi!!!
one of my main hobbies is selfshipping so i was wondering if there was anyone else who likes it in here :]
for those who dont know, selfshipping is shipping yourself with a fictional character. it doesn't have to be romantic either it can be a platonic or familial relationship as well. i would love to talk to more selfshippers

Not sure if it's exactly what you're talking about, but you may be interested in checking out the Self-Insert Webring. It's funny, I find the concept a bit odd, but I have been guilty of becoming quite attached to fictional characters. I've just never gone as far as selfshipping though. Is it because I'm incapable, or because it's too much work? If someone/thing came along and did the heavy lifting: generating text about the character's responses and feelings, generated art unique to the relationship, or, depending on the medium, generated the voice of the character. Is there a future where dating a fictional character isn't so crazy? Surely not a novel concept, but I personally believe that part of my attachment to the characters is their finiteness and their ambiguity. That I only had so much time with them. That they live in the more fantastical part of my head. That the things they didn't say or do may have been just as valuable as the things they did.

im already in that webring!! it can be a bit hard to navigate though, since only 1 character is shown its hard to know if these people ship with characters i know that arent necessarily shown on the webring widgetArevakhach wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 8:40 am Not sure if it's exactly what you're talking about, but you may be interested in checking out the Self-Insert Webring.

I've never heard of the term self-shipping, but I think most people feel attraction to fictional characters at some point. Thinking on it, the longest lasting crush I've had on a character was Judeau from Berserk because, after watching the 90's anime, it was clear that he was easygoing, kind, smart, skilled, emotionally intelligent, funny, and thoughtful. Those were traits I valued highly and I tended to imagine him as my friend and sometimes a romantic partner.
In high school, my friends and I had a band of characters we all felt some attraction to and we certainly made up stories amongst ourselves. (It was really fun and we laughed a lot.) I also wrote a number of characters specifically to appeal to myself romantically.
I never thought of it as a hobby and I'm really interested to hear how it's a hobby for you! ^_^

Kind of? The selfshipping community seems like a lot of fun from what I've seen and full of nice people - one of my good mutuals on Tumblr could be considered a part of it with how they talk about the Riddler.
Anyways, I could never participate, sadly. I've cycled through a variety of fictional crushes over the years and I've only had a few that really stuck with me, the most notable example being Spike Spiegel.
The closest I've gotten to selfshipping is making a self-insert sona for my main story Pink Hills and shipping her with an OC that's heavily based on my current fictional crush. I feel like his attire and his characterization alone gives away who he's based on
Does that count?
