Share your webrings and webring ideas!
If you have a webring and are looking for more members, share them here! Or are you planning to create a webring but don't know if anyone's interested? Share them here! Feel free to discuss what webrings you wish existed, too. Maybe someday someone can make them.
(I know there's already an existing topic for webrings, but I feel like it's a bit too general. This is more specifically for talking about creating and expanding webrings! ^^)
For me, I've been thinking about creating an webring dedicated to people on the agender, aromantic, and asexual spectrums (insert Triple A Battery joke here). Plus, a webring dedicated to people in SEA (Southeast Asia), or more specifically the Philippines (where I'm from), would be cool. I think nationality-based webrings are neat, but I don't see them very often!
How about ya'll? :0

Re: Share your webrings and webring ideas!
Recently I've been exploring the Lainchan Webring. I like a couple of things about it:
1. You must make a banner to join. Not the hardest thing in the world, but I feel like it's a solid enough barrier to entry that also encourages you to reflect / connect / think about the identity of your site; as it is, kind-of, an "ad".
2. It is decentralized. You are expected to host every banner of, & every link to, the other sites on the ring somewhere on your site. If one site dies, the ring should still exist on all the others, there is no central manager or underlying coded system. Just hyperlinked images.
It's a shame how many don't do that. The ones who have the full collection are a handful. If there were more, I'd be more confident in its longevity. And yet, something just feels more intimate about it than a lot of the other webrings I've explored.
3. It encourages having alternative mirrors of your site, like a .onion or I2P. Heck, those can be your primary, not a mirror. But, basically, you can exist as many times on the ring as the amount of mirrors you've created.
4. It's strongly reliant on, and respectful of, personal autonomy. A strength and a weakness. Unfortunately, I feel it could be better with a little more direction / leadership. Of course, that's a tricky thing to handle, but I believe they have (as of present) not struck a good balance.

Re: Share your webrings and webring ideas!
Lord knows I've really been wanting a webring for black webmasters, although I'm just too sensitive to deal with the inevitable racism I'd deal with for starting one... it's so hard to find more of us out here!!!
I do have one called the Webring of Suok though!! It's specifically for fans of the Pathologic series :^) Since I don't really update my fansite very often anymore I figured being able to link other Patho fans together would be fun...

now, we're not insane, we're just pretending... 'least i think we are...
well, who really cares that much anyway?

I'm in a few webrings (and plan to join more lol)
You can see them here!
I also run a webring focused on pre-1980s aesthetics! It's called the Atomic Age Network.

Nationality or language-based one would be nice, but there isn't enough of us. And I don't know how to code one.
If you make this one let me know because I just thought today an asexual webring would be nice

Re: Share your webrings and webring ideas!
this post is more inspired by the thread of the yesterweb webring shutting down and the other thread on how to make the internet better but I think it would be more appropriate here, plus I'm on mobile:
the purpose of the webring is going to determine its complexity. most webrings serve an extremely minimal purpose and can get away with being decentralized, especially if there's no expectation of dealing with social antagonisms (for example, what do do when another member is denying your right to exist on their website / socials).
some partial idea on more 'advanced' webrings:
all members could share access to the main webring host
have some rules for a democratic organization, such as how to add and remove members, the criteria to be accepted, how and when to remove members, how to deal with inactivity, how and when to perform reviews of the current webring to see if members are breaking the rules
have both a 'living' centralized webring and 'static' decentralized webrings, where the static ones are self-hosted and are required to point to the living one
all of this is of course a lot of work but I think in general the outcome will reflect however much work is put into it

we seek greater knowledge to make greater decisions when the time for making decisions appears - to be the most capable versions of ourselves in any situation that arises - this is why we study - this is why we learn

I would love to see that! I'm actually planning to create a webring for people in the same fandom as I am, although I haven't started yet.

Re: Share your webrings and webring ideas!
I'd love to start some fandom rings, but Vocaloid/Vocal Synths would probably be the only fandom I'm in that's big and active enough to justify its own webring. Knowing me the only one I'd actually make would be themed around a joke-turned-not-a-joke like "Webmasters Against Dark Mode" or something.
Would members have to be all three or just one? Either way message me if you ever get it up, I'd love to join.

I mention it since on your site you seem saddened by the passing of the Yesterweb Ring, you may be interested in joining this one.

I tried to join it back when I joined the yesterweb ring but I wasn't accepted. Thanks anyway.Arevakhach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 5:34 pmVOCALOID WEBRINGkurohaato wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 5:15 pm I'd love to start some fandom rings, but Vocaloid/Vocal Synths would probably be the only fandom I'm in that's big and active enough to justify its own webring. Re: Share your webrings and webring ideas!
In light of the Yesterweb forum shutting down, I'd like to thank everyone here for all the wonderful ideas and insights shared on this thread! ^w^
I'm also very surprised at the amount of people interested in my webring ideas! I'm still in the process of making them, but if you do want to be added to them, feel free to reach me at my email starrsexplorestheweb at gmail.com!

They don't have to be all three to be accepted into the webring! Just being on one spectrum is enough ^^
